Chapters Transcript Video Alicia Morgans, MD, MPH on genitourinary cancer treatment and Dana-Farber's survivorship program My name is Alicia morgans and I treat genital urinary malignancies, predominantly prostate cancer and bladder cancer or your ethereal cancer. When I first meet with patients and with families, I really want to understand and know who that person is and who is the loved one in the room, the caregiver, the person who shares the day today with that individual. I also want to understand what makes that person happy, what makes them move forward in this cancer journey and try to understand as well how aggressive they want to be against the cancer versus how aggressive they want to be in maintaining their quality of life because it's always a balance and not every treatment or approach is perfect for any individual. We need to find the right match for the right person. There are so many clinical trials that are exciting and provide new hope for patients. And since most of my research is working with patients with prostate cancer, I would say that there are combination trials, radio pharmaceuticals, things like loutish, um and other imaging modalities that are going to help us both treat our patients but better understand the extent of the cancer in their bodies on a new level in a way that helps us treat them more effectively and more precisely. The survivorship program at Dana Farber is a really special place that tries to partner with patients from the moment of diagnosis if that's what they want or from the time that they complete the really intense therapy to help support them in their ongoing journey of being a person, again, not just a patient and I'm the medical director of the program and really appreciative and proud to be able to join such a successful and important team. I think it's so important to be an oncologist, to be engaged in the journey of cancer with people. It is a special and unique thing and not something that can be replicated in any other career or profession. And I really believe that it's more of a calling for people in oncology than it is a job and just I'm so grateful to participate. Published Created by
